About Me and My Work

About Me

Photography Artist and Poet

My name is Tanya Bartlett, and I am from the Cincinnati area. Though I arrived at this work a little later than many photographers and writers, I feel like I’ve always considered myself to be most suited for it as a profession.

Photography and writing are my chosen tools for processing the world. The work is sometimes arduous, sometimes celebratory, and sometimes cathartic, but I love this work at all times.

If I could leave a simple note of wisdom here for anyone who may be interested in photography and/or writing as a profession: Like anything, these two things are practices, and the practice is what makes you who you are.

About My Photography

Abstract, Flora, and Landscape Photographic Prints

I find myself obsessed with artful, ethereal, and surreal subjects. I love the play between light and dark or light and shadows, lines, and textures. Sometimes it takes minutes to edit a piece the way I want it, and other times I have to sit with a piece for a day or two or longer.

And now I suppose this is a good place for a disclaimer: Sometimes I use the rule of thirds and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I stick to the rules and sometimes I don’t. I’m not the most gifted photographer in the world. I’m not the most technical photographer in the world. I don’t consider myself an expert. I don’t want to be an expert. My work is a work in progress. I, too, am a work in progress.

All that to say, I love making art, and I love experimenting with layers and effects.

When I created my website in December 2020 with a primary focus in macro flora photography, I had no idea that I would also grow to love working with abstracts and landscapes, but I now have three pages of collections dedicated to abstract, flora, and landscape pieces.

Some pieces are calm and serene and some are lively and vibrant, and if you’re looking for something that’s not in one of my collections, feel free to reach out to me. I am available for commission for custom pieces.

So take a look around and if you have questions about pricing or ordering, feel free to email me at info@tanyabartlett.com.

About My Writing

Video, Visual, and Written Poetry

I enjoy many different forms and genres of writing, but I especially enjoy poetry, and when I’m writing I generally explore subjects in mythology, nature, philosophy, and politics.

It all started when I was a kid listening to stories and nursery rhymes. I remember having lots of access to poetry books, Dr. Seuss books, and even recordings of folktales.

I share some of my poetry here on my writing page, and I also created a YouTube channel for some of my poetry videos. You can also find my work in various collections and anthologies as listed in the Publications and Exhibitions section below.
